The State Employees’ Insurance Board (SEIB) is closely monitoring developments in the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The SEIB is committed to provide our members with uninterrupted access to the SEIB and their health benefits.

The health and safety of our members are of paramount importance. Please visit covid19.alabama.gov to find more information about COVID-19 and available related services. You may also call 1-800-270-7268 or email covid19info . Telephone calls are answered by Alabama Department of Public Health staff from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Interpreters are available.

If you believe you have been exposed to the COVID-19 or have symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing, please follow guidance given by state and local health authorities. To assist our members, there will be no copayment for COVID-19 testing.

Symptoms & Prevention Tips

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released information to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and determine if you are symptomatic.

Symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Flu-like symptoms, such as body aches and chills

Prevention Tips:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid touching your mouth, nose or eyes
  • Practice social distancing by staying at home and avoiding the public, if possible
  • If you must go out, wear a face mask and maintain a minimal distance of 6 feet between yourself and others at all times.

SEIB Benefit Administration

We have made some adjustments to assist our members during the pandemic.

Benefits

There is no copayment for COVID-19 testing or treatment, and our members are eligible for a one-time early refill with a valid prescription.

Discounts

New state employees enrolling in State Employees’ Health Insurance Plan (SEHIP) will have 90 days to qualify for the wellness discount. The deadline to submit paperwork for the Federal Poverty Level discount has been extended to July 31st.

Flexible Benefits

The IRS has recently approved some over the counter medications for purchase with flexible spending accounts – here is the list of eligible expenses . Dependent Care members are able to make changes to your account as a result of daycare closures, please contact the SEIB Enrollments division for guidance.

OptumRx

SEIB’s prescription benefit manager, OptumRx, is closely monitoring the current COVID-19 pandemic. To view your OptumRx profile, you may visit OptumRx , create a personal account and view your prescription information.

Teladoc

Teladoc is an excellent and free resource for our members. Members can utilize it as a triage for non-emergency health concerns and the physicians are trained to ask specific questions regarding COVID-19. If necessary, Teladoc physicians will encourage the members to seek COVID-19 testing at a site closest to the member's location. The current demand for Teladoc has increased significantly due to this pandemic, which means wait times to receive a call from a physician have also increased. Telehealth gives you access to health care providers from the comfort of your home through digital audio-visual technologies, such as FaceTime, Skype, Zoom or dedicated telehealth applications.
