Flexible Employee Benefits Enrollment - HCRA

Effective Date: January 1, 2011 to present

The Flexible Employees’ Benefits Board provides a $50.00 credit to any member who enrolls in the Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) with a minimum annual contribution of $120.00, giving you $170.00 for the 2014 plan year.

Beginning January 1, 2011, as part of Healthcare Reform, over the counter (OTC) medicine will no longer be an eligible item for reimbursement as part of a Healthcare Flexible Spending Account unless otherwise prescribed by a provider. Therefore, any OTC drug/medicine expenses incurred on or after January 1, 2011, will require a doctor’s written prescription in order to be reimbursed.

Items such as cough, cold and flu medicines, pain relievers and acid relief medication will now require a doctor’s written prescription to be submitted along with each reimbursement request. The debit card will reject these types of items at the time of purchase and will require manual submission. Other OTC items, such as diabetic supplies, elastic bandages and wraps, band-aids, and reading glasses will continue to be eligible without a prescription and can be purchased with validation through IIAS (an inventory point of sale approval system) using the debit card.
